(1543-1607). A native of Shaozhou 韶州. He made several military contributions in battles against peasant rebels with the result that he was promoted from a commandant 守備 to brigade general 遊擊 and then to assistant regional commander 參將. In 1598 he destroyed a Japanese fleet at Noryang 露梁. He was known as the most meritorious among Ming generals during the Imjin War (aka Hideyoshi's Invasion). After he returned to China, he pacified Miao 苗 rebellions twice. When he died in 1607, the Ming court posthumously titled him the Grand Guardian of the Heir Apparent 太子太保. | 린(璘), 진도독(陳都督), 진린(陳璘) |
