고력사 (가오리스) |
Gao Lishi(高力士, 684–762) was one of the most well-known eunuchs in Chinese history. He is often viewed as a positive example of eunuch participation in politics for his loyalty to Emperor Xuanzong(玄宗). Because he made a significant contribution to suppress the riot of Empress Wei(韋皇后) and Princess Taiping(太平公主), he gained Emperor Xuanzong's confidence and became very powerful during his reign. Late in Emperor Suzong(肅宗)'s reign, he was exiled due to the eunuch, Li Buguo(李補國)'s false accusation. He died soon after he returned from exile in 762.
