(1526-1615). A powerful and capable general of the Ming dynasty possibly of Jurchen origin. He defeated barbarians at ten big battles in Liaodong 遼東 and served as regional commander 總兵 in the region for 30 years. As he became famous and powerful, he accumulated great wealth and was given to luxury; hence, he was impeached and lost his positions in 1591. But he recovered his former positions in 1601. In 1608 he was impeached and lost his positions again due to accusations that he had given up territory and forced Ming subjects to move away from frontier areas. After his dismissal, he lived in Beijing until his death. He fathered five sons, all of whom served as military officials. Li Chengqian(李承乾, 619-644) was Emperor Taizong(太宗)'s oldest son and the first crown prince, but later he was replaced by his younger brother Li Zhi(李治). Since he feared that his elder brother and the favorite son of Taizong, Li Tai(李泰) would replace him, he plotted with the general Hou Junji(侯君集) to overthrow Emperor Taizong .
